the best of New Zealand

Some friends had told me about this show a while ago and I had no clue what they were talking about. Now the show - Flight of the Conchords - is all the rage. And I just recently got into it when another friend sent this video to me. Next thing I knew I was on YouTube watching episode after episode. Season 1 of their show is now out on DVD. The show is brilliant...so you'd be foolish to not check it out.

. . . that's This American Life

I forgot to mention in the previous post that I also had the opportunity of meeting Ira Glass of NPR's This American Life.  He was promoting the show's DVD release (of the episodes on Showtime) at Border's. It was definitely an enjoyable experience and Season 1 of the program is great. For a man that's widely known, with a perfect story-telling voice, he's rather geeky looking but oh so adorable.

Goo goo for Gondry

Recently I had the opportunity to sit in on a talk with director Michele Gondry at the Apple store. He spoke of his new movie - Be Kind Rewind - and his working with Final Cut Pro (hence why he was at the Apple Store). Anyway, beyond simply enjoying being in the same room as him, as the interview went on I found myself, and so did everyone else, being more often humored by his mispronunciation of English words. Is it pussy or posse?....does anyone care? The man's a genius!

Mona Kuhn

Not sure why I didn't know about this woman's work before now, but after seeing her appear in photo-eye and after looking at her large body of images...I sort of fell in love with her. Granted a lot of her images are very similar, and looking at over 20 of them can get a bit monotonous, but no matter - I still enjoy them. You can see more of her work here.
